The Eighth Wonder Of The World

Andre The Giant

André the Giant

A look at the life and career of professional wrestler André Roussimoff, who gained notoriety in the 1980s as Andre the Giant.

André René Roussimoff was born in 1946 in Molien, France. In his early teens, he exhibited signs of gigantism though he was not diagnosed with acromegaly until his twenties. He began his training in Paris at 17 and eventually became known in wrestling circuits around the world. One of the first things I found interesting about this documentary was all the independent circuits there were around the world and the United States. It was cool to see how it all panned out and how Jim McMahon pulled them all together to form the WWE. I always knew that Andre and Hogan were a big reason for the success that kicked it off but never knew how it came to.

I have never been a huge wrestling fan but growing up in the 80's it was hard to miss. My best friend was a huge fan so I remember spending many hours watching with him. It was also a big thing at MDA summer camp so I had to keep up with the storylines just to understand what everybody was talking about. Of course, Andrea was one of my favorite wrestlers.

The doc paints a nice picture of his early life and how hard it was for him to travel. What most surprised me was how he just could not melt away meaning he could not hind like you and I he was going to be noticed no matter where he went. He had no peace and quiet. This also made for a lonely lifestyle.

This all wraps up with Wrestlemania 3 Hogan VS The Giant for the belt. This match will truly set the world on fire and really launch the WWE. What I did not know his how poor the health was for Andre. Also never realized how much this wrecked him emotionally.

As fun as the doc was it did make you appreciate the man a world fell in love with and is love for us. He may have been a giant but he was so loveable. Even if you did not or do not watch Wrestling this is still a nice little look on somebody's life even if it leaves you in tears.

Eebee is back for 777

Evil Bong 777
2018 | Color | 1 Hr  | Horror | R | Full Moon Empire

Director: Charles Band

Writers:
Charles Band
Brockton McKinney

Stars:
Sonny Carl Davis
Robin Sydney
Jessica Morris
Mindy Robinson

EVIL BONG 777 leaves off where last year's EVIL BONG 666 left off. Our scowling weed-spewing Eebee is out of "Sexy Hell" and heading to Sin City with danger on her tail. She's joined by her whack pack of fabulous freaks: Faux Batty, Rabbit, Misty and The Gingerweed Man. Get ready for a tidal wave of smutty, skunky, surreal insanity as the gang gets into all manner of misadventures. Can Vegas handle this gaggle of ganja-fied weirdos?

It's 420 kids and you know what that means, yep its time for Uncle Charley to bring us another pothead bong movie! I know for me its like Halloween I just get so excited. This being the 8th flick overall they seem to grow in popularity every year. So does 777 hold up well light one up and grab the cheese curl's my friends and read on.

First thing I would like to clear the air about, I was surprised the lack of PR for this flick usually the Full Moon Camp is tweeting out teaser pictures and little tease in the newsletter but for this one, they kept it pretty tight-lipped. In fact, I almost forgot about it until last week when I realized it was coming soon.

From humble apartment and bowling alleys, Eebee has moved on to the Vegas Strip. Of course, Band gives us a nice look into sin city.  Somehow writer Brockton McKinney weaves up a nice story this time around for our heroes(?), as they escape to what has to be the cool's place in Vegas Versnachy's Fuppet Theater! When you get a movie with a giant Elvis puppet that has Sex with a stripper you know you're in for a good time! And that is only the beging of the crazyness.

The look and feel of this movie is on point and the use of different locations are fun we are no longer strapped to Eebee's magical weed storefront. The Artisan Hotel looks amazing and was a perfect backdrop to tell the tale. The place looks fun enough to look into a stay a while proved that we do not have to deal with pothead ghost. It has a nice creepy look that invites you in.

It is always fun to see returning cast members show up to fill in the backstory as well. From Circus-Szalewski, Michelle Mais, and Alan Maxon you never know what you will get even a cameo from Tanya Tate. What was nice to see this time around was no silly merchandise from Full Moon in the back round or how the story was built around. It was getting kind of stale, needless to say, it was nice not to have it in your face. We still get some of that but nothing that takes you out of the mood.

I know I have been kind of harsh on Robin in the past getting really annoying in these films but this time around she toned down her performance and played an annoying charter to a tee. I still love Robin and feel she is underappreciated in Hollywood and should be doing so much more. She is still one of the main reason's to watch any of the Evil Bong flicks.

But let's not forget Jessica Morris I fell for her in Haunted Casino but after The Dead Want Women I fell head over heels for this girl. She is so sweet and in 777 we get to see a darker version of her. It's nice to see her back and looking forward to her return in the 8th installment.

Also for Evil Bong 777 Tom Devlin again knocks it out of the park with his 1313FX which is the real deal. Plus we get a nice little sneak peek into his Las Vegas Musem along with two new puppets (See photo below). Not much new in the way of the soundtrack we do get a few new song's but none as memerable as Wicked Weed that will be running through my head all weekend.

Evil Bong has just the right running time at 58 minutes I have said once before with these films you get no filler BS but rather a perfect movie. Movies today needing to run an hour and a half fall apart trying to fill your attention with pointless junk that can ruin the film. Do not let the runtime fool you it never stop's being fun and when it does end it leaves you wanting just a bit more!

So what do you get with Evil Bong 777, well fill your pipe for some puppet sex, evil hell, and Vegas baby. 777 keeps the story going looks fantastic and is one hell of a fun ride!

It's curtains for his critics!

Theater OF Blood
1973 | Color | 1 Hr 44 Min | Horror | R | MGM

Director: Douglas Hickox

Writers:
Anthony Greville-Bell
Stanley Mann

Stars:
Vincent Price
Diana Rigg
Ian Hendry

Edward Lionheart stars as an actor overlooked for a critics' acting award, despite producing a season of Shakespeare plays. After confronting the Critics' Circle, an attempted suicidal dive into the Thames results in Lionheart being rescued by your typical paraffin/meths/turps swigging tramps. Lionheart then (presumed dead) exacts his grizzly and quite amusing revenge on the critics who denied him his finest hour.

Often at times, I catch myself saying "Why have I waited so long to watch this"? Well after being gifted this VHS tape I could not wait to pop it in. We all love Vincent Price and its hard to say if he has ever made a bad movie. Yet here it is Theater of Blood and it has to be one of his best movies I ever witnessed! Again why did I wait it's not like I have not heard about it or seen the cover before all I can say is I'm kicking myself for waiting this long. Stanley Mann (writer on Firestarter, Connan, and Damien: Omen 2) came up with this Shakspeare idea and with Anthony who wrote such an amazing story.

Considered by its star Vincent Price to be his personal favorite of all his films you can just tell by looking at him. He looked to be having so much fun that it oozes off the screen and into your lap! The gitty twinkle in his eye really helps drive this movie. I could not wait to see how the next death was going to happen. I even gag when he was feeding one of the critics his own dogs in a pie! YUCK! All though it is said to have used 11 gallons of fake blood I'm not sure how. I do not remember the 11 kills to be all that bloody but more clever than anything else.

And how did I not know about Coral Browne being an affair? Price fell in love with and married actress Browne following this film. His appearance as the subject of "This is Your Life", his last public appearance with second wife Mary, who knew nothing yet about his affair with Coral. Diana Rigg help set up the couple after she noticed the chemistry between the two.  Browne once said "I married Vincent Price very late in both our lives. It was chiefly because, even if Vincent can be a bit moody and frightening at times, loneliness is even more frightful. Without a husband, even an actress doesn't get invited out much".

Diana Rigg regards this as her best film even after her Gloden Globe Nominee for The Hospital and fantastic work on The Avengers must kids today will know her as Lady Olenna Tyrell on Game of Thrones. It's great to see her working still at the age of 79 she just finished "A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong." last year. She is one beautiful woman as was really my second favorite part while watching Theater of Blood.

And can I say the special effects and make-up are down right mind blowing! Of course, John Stears nailing the special effects should be no big surprise as he worked on some big movies like Star Wars A New Hope,  Many of the James Bond films, and of course 1986's F/X! And come on what other movie do you get to see fencing on trampolines? Outside of the ending, this was by far my favorite scene. Also worth a mention is Michael J. Lewis score that fills the movie in a wonderful way also helping drive the movie from beginning to end.

Wow just wow shame on me for missing out on this for so long. I was moved in so many ways watching Theater of Blood from laughing to hiding my eyes Price's masterpiece just might make it to one of my all-time favorites. I will be looking to upgrade from VHS to Blu-Ray soon just to revisit this pure movie magic.

Mr. Lionheart no need to come after this critic I give you...

Elmer Bernstein's Spacehunter Music

In honor of this past weekend's blogathon Space, I watched Spacehunter starring Molly Ringwald. I rather enjoyed the soundtrack! Have a listen and enjoy your day.

Come Take A Ride in The Creepzone!

Spacehunter Adventures in The Forbidden Zone
1983 | Color | 1 Hr 30 Min | SciFi | PG | Columbia Pictures

Director:
Lamont Johnson

Writers:
Stewart Harding
Jean LaFleur

Stars:
Peter Strauss
Molly Ringwald
Ernie Hudson
Michael Ironside

Three women make an emergency landing on a planet plagued with a fatal disease but are captured by dictator Overdog. Adventurer Wolff goes there to rescue them and meets Niki, the only Earthling left from a medical expedition. Combining their talents, they try to rescue the women.

What happens when your living in the early 80's and you toss Star Wars, Mad Max, and Tron into a blender? You get this wonderful little gem from my early childhood. Far from original and going as far as ripping off R2-D2 sound effects the story starts off as a joke when our hero the Spacehunter is scanning his messages and owes money to everybody including his ex-wife. When he hears of the missing three women and the huge bounty for saving them. Thankfully Lamont Johnson brings us back to normal rather quickly as we land on the planet.

After landing on the barren world, Wolff set out in search of the woman.  At this point, we are treated to some really cool special effects and visuals. Soon, Wolff joins a battle in progress between a group of marauders and a band of nomads. The Zoners take the women before Wolff can stop them and fly away on jet-powered hang-gliders. Wolff learns from the Scavs that the women were taken into "The Zone" which is ruled by "Overdog". This all leads to our first look at a young Molly Ringwald.

Wolff and Niki (Ringwald) make camp but soon come under attack by a plow looking vehicle. Wolff manages to disable the machine and learns the driver is a former military acquaintance of his – a soldier named Washington (Ernie Hudson), who reveals he too has come to rescue the women as well. On to the Zone, the women are taken to see the Overdog (Michael Ironside), who is revealed to be a hideous cyborg, almost entirely machine, with two metal claws for hands.

What is fun about this movie is there is never a break in the action. Unlike most space operas the pace of Spacehunter never lets up. But for now, Niki claiming to be a tracker takes Wolff into more predicaments from being attacked by mutated (Full Moon Features style) human beings, to strange amazon-like women and a water dragon again never letting up.

Wolff and Washington finally team up to take down Overdog's fortress where they find the Zoners entertained by captured prisoners forced to run through a deadly maze of obstacles, hazards, and traps. After Wolff spots the women being held in a cage and forms a rescue plan, he takes Niki out of harm's way but you know that never works as she decides to snoop around. She is captured and sent into the maze.

Wolff spots Niki in the maze and tries to rescue her, but she uses her prowess to reach the end where Overdog congratulates her and drags her back to his lair. The energy, in turn, recharges Overdog. Wolff comes to the rescue Niki and takes on the Overdog. Once the fortress explodes around them, Wolff and Niki run for cover and are rescued by the timely arrival of Washington with three women.   They all race out of the fortress in the nick of time as it explodes behind them.

This movie has it all a great cast, fantastic score and visuals to go along with a fun story that never stops and gives you something new every turn you take. It's been 35 years since I have seen this movie in the theatres and that is a shame. Spacehunters deserves more attention as an 80's space classic. Sure Molly Ringwald drives me nut's in this flick and is most likely the reason I have skipped it all these years but shame on me!

If your into Cheesy no-brainer movies that do their job of entertaining you, then look into Spacehunters Adventures In The Forbidden Zone. For me, it is pretty easy scoring this one at...

An American Dream!

Trump An American Dream
2017 | Color | 4 Part Mini Series | Documentary | PG | Netflix

Produced By Channel 4 out of the United Kingdom

Stars:
Colin Tierney
Nikki Haskell
Rona Barrett

British documentary series exploring the extraordinary journey of Donald J. Trump through five decades.

I'm not going to lie when this popped up on my Netflix feed I thought oh come on really? But then again I really do not know this guy so I felt like giving the first episode a look.

At just over an hour episode one "Manhattan" takes us to Trump's roots growing up. This also touches base starting in the 1970s, Donald emerges from his father's shadow and negotiates a huge real estate deal, then sets his sights on building his namesake tower. Not going to kid you this sucked me in he did not start out as a douche bag at all.

Episode Two "The Gambler" Donald's decadence ramps up in the '80s as he gets into the casino business and expands his brand, but his personal life begins to unravel. I can not believe this I'm really into this show and was amazed at how he used "Fake News" this early in his career.

Episode Three "Citizen Trump" Trump teeters on the brink of financial ruin as his divorce and affair make headlines, but he looks to the stock market to fuel his comeback. Plus we get to see him during the Apprentice which is the only time I have really heard of him. Had no clue about the board game and all the books he has written.

On the final episode and the longest clocking in over an hour "Politics" In the 21st century, Trump's star rises again in reality television before he turns his attention toward the ultimate seat of power -- the White House. No clue this guy wanted to run for office way back in the 90's!

Ok look we all have our opinions on the man but this documentary is done really well. This is not a propaganda flick making him look good and boosting his ego. In fact after watching how he act's I kind of felt that maybe just maybe he is going to sue Netflix. Never the less this is worth your time. I did not make me like or hate him any more than I do but the entertainment leave is well worth it in the end.

In honor of Donald, I give Trump An American Dream...

And Our Bad Movie Police are played by:
Ariauna Albright
Lilith Stabs

For anyone who’s ever watched a movie so bad, you wished acting required a permit or that a 14-day waiting period was mandatory to buy a camera...the Bad Movie Police are here! Follow the adventures of Sgt. Elke Mantooth, Lt. Drucilla Dread and The BMP Task Force as they seek out the worst “cine-terrorists” in movie history and bring their crimes to justice for your entertainment!

Bad Movie Police

Hold the phone! My love for bad movies has just hit an all-time low. And toss in a so-called Horror Host kind of flick and I'm there. But the first Bad Movie Police case from 1992 called Galaxy of the Dinosaurs. Its claim to fame is director Lance Randas’(Bookwalter)  gross misuse of stock footage from Plant of the Dinosaurs, intercut with Super-S VHS footage shot in the woods behind the director’s father’s house of all things! So does it hold up or does it suck space Dino eggs? Read on you fools read on.

Bad Movie Police

So the idea of a few Hot Babes dressed as cops talking control of a bad movie was the reason I picked this up. I was hoping for a Svengoolie type but what we get instead is an eight-minute lead into a horrible movie. I'm always willing to sit through a shit show when it has fun entertainment peppered in, sadly this did not and I was hoping for an outro but it just ended when the movie ended. This could have been such a great idea. The police segments are new as of 2003(?) and the star of the show being the 1992 space flick that I'm about to tell you about. I hope...

Galaxy opens up with our group of misfits on a spaceship looking for a planet when the ship is about to go down, let the bad acting begin. The spaceship is rather cool for a no-budget flick as they tossed together a few electronics laying around the garage. The rest well it was truly shot in somebody's backyard. The outfit's worn by the actors where there own according to the commentary. So really that's it in a nutshell when it comes to the sets.

I will admit it was an interesting yet novel idea to splice an old movie with a low budget new movie. And although the contrast does not work with one being a dessert and one in a backyard just before the spring thaw you have to give them credit for what they tried to do. And it's not like they just spliced in some dinosaurs they really worked to make the pace right and the scene's to make sense. Even though this is something my brother and I have done for years somehow this made its way to DVD.

The dialog even lengthy at times does push the story through even if the actors came straight from the local theatre group but somehow they make it work. Yeah, it's hard to watch them struggle at times but however, they most likely were not getting paid to do this so you get what you get and you don't throw a fit. In terms of a musical score honestly, I do not remember much of one so I will take that as a plus.

Oh boy now the special effects, we get a nice little teleport scene and some ray gun blast's but the only real special effects come at the end when the bad guy reveals himself to the group and what you get is... well see the picture above. It's not bad when you remember this movie cost them $1,200 to make so a tip of the hat to the makeup artist.

Ok look this movie is truly bad and the host element fails miserably but somehow some way I did like it. Bookwalter brings together his friends to try an experiment and it works on the outside looking in. We also get James Black ex-football player turned actor that somehow finds his way into the Tempe Video family in his early acting career. He is also the only one still working today with over 133 tiles under his belt. So should you seek out this amazing waste of time probably not but for me it was an ok ride.
